Who we are
Crossing NK is a federally incorporated non-profit organization in Canada, founded in 2016 in Toronto by a group of seven — North Korean defectors settled in Canada, members of the Korean diaspora, and Canadian supporters.
We are a media-based non-profit dedicated to raising global awareness about human rights issues affecting North Korean people. Through our work, we mobilize the international community in defense of freedom, democracy, and the fundamental rights of every human being.
How we work
Truth Through Media
Documentaries, video interviews, articles, and digital content that make the realities of North Korea visible to the world. We treat defector testimonies as authoritative evidence in the global defense of freedom and democracy.
Helping Freedom and Democracy Grow
By showing what life under totalitarian rule actually looks like, we help democratic societies recognize what they stand for. We shape public opinion and call for policy responses that uphold human rights, denuclearization, and peace.
Voice and Solidarity for Defectors
We provide a platform for North Korean defectors to speak in their own voice. We support those settled in Canada through practical programs, and we connect their stories to international audiences.
What we do
Content Production & Distribution
We produce and distribute videos, articles, podcasts, and documentary content covering the realities of North Korea, human rights issues, and outside news. We focus particularly on conveying the authentic voices of North Korean defectors so audiences around the world can hear directly from those who lived it.
Defector Support & Self-Sufficiency
We operate practical support programs for North Korean defectors settled in Canada — helping them achieve stable lives, economic self-sufficiency, and meaningful integration into Canadian society. Past programs have included English tutoring, counselling, and referral services.
International Solidarity & Awareness
We participate in international conferences on North Korean human rights, engage Canadian audiences through talks at schools, churches, and community groups, and conduct public campaigns to broaden global support for freedom, democracy, and the human rights of North Korean people.
